The developers of the OpenClaw project have announced the release of standalone mobile apps for iOS and Android. This gives open-source AI agents direct access to the App Store and Google Play. Android Police notes that the mobile app does not run the AI model directly on the smartphone. The app works as a personal gateway or «window» to the OpenClaw agent, which is already deployed on the user’s personal computer or on a cloud server. Synchronization of the mobile client with the running server occurs through scanning a QR code or entering a special configuration key.
Previously, to remotely control their AI agents, users had to integrate them into messengers like Telegram or Slack. The mobile application offers a more convenient interface: in addition to text chat, a «Talk» voice mode has appeared for dictating instructions by voice. A system of push notifications about the status of tasks and the ability to quickly confirm or reject autonomous actions that the AI plans to perform have also been added. Access to the camera, microphone, geolocation, photo gallery, and calendar is provided only with the user’s consent.
Despite the expected release, the first community reviews on the X (Twitter) social network have been mixed. Users criticize the application for an unfinished interface and periodic failures in the operation of certain functions. Screenshots on the Play Store also look hasty, although tests on flagship devices (in particular, the Pixel 8 Pro and Vivo X300 Ultra) show that the real interface of the application works and looks much better than in the official images in the store.
OpenClaw received a similar skeptical reaction when it first launched, but the platform has since evolved significantly. The mobile app is also expected to evolve rapidly and eventually become the main tool for users to interact with their own AI agents on a daily basis.
The open-source project is currently being managed by the non-profit OpenClaw Foundation. The startup’s active scaling phase began after its founder Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI in early 2026, which pledged to support the foundation.
