Operation "Web" was supposed to take place before May 9, but it had to be postponed because Russian truck drivers "got drunk." SBU Chief Malyuk spoke about the details of the operation
The drivers were used "in the dark", they were paid generously, but according to Russian tradition, this did not save them from the temptation of the "green snake".
The drivers were used "in the dark", they were paid generously, but according to Russian tradition, this did not save them from the temptation of the "green snake".
In an interview with the channel "We are Ukraine", the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Malyuk spoke about the details of the "Web" operation, which took place in early June. The head of the SBU said that the truck drivers who delivered FPV drones to airfields did not know at all what they were transporting, they received a good salary and did not ask unnecessary questions.
Despite this, there was a human factor that forced the SBU special forces to postpone the operation for a month. According to Malyuk, incidents occurred almost every week.
"We planned to carry out the operation before May 9, but they went into a slump on Easter. One driver is missing, then another, you know. Then on May 1, they have a "May Day" and they are lying there for a week, they are gone. Then on May 9. We really missed a month, I tell you frankly, precisely for this root cause," Malyuk said in an interview.
Malyuk also said that before sending the houses with drones, one of the assistants accidentally pressed a button and opened the roof of the house, which allowed the truck driver to see the FPV drones deployed in combat order. The SBU agent on the spot recounted a fictional story that he told the driver that those drones were needed to track the animal population, because according to legend, these houses were supposed to be hunting houses.
"The driver who saw this was 63 years old. Well, that is, he is of age and is essentially on "You" with gadgets. That's why he ate our legend. Plus, they reinforced it with a corresponding additional salary from above. And so it crept into our lives," the head of the SBU said.
As a reminder, on June 1, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted an operation called "Cobweb." The security service attacked four Russian air bases, damaging more than 40 enemy aircraft, including A-50s, Tu-95s, and Tu-22M3 bombers. The SBU reported that the cost of damage to Russian strategic aviation amounted to about $7 billion.
AI drones were used to strike Russian air bases. They were trained on Soviet-era bombers stored in Ukrainian military museums.
