"Everyone will lose." Nova Poshta co-owner says tax on parcels from abroad worth up to €150 will hit Ukrainian stores and manufacturers
Volodymyr Popereshnyuk, co-owner of the Nova Group of Companies, said that the introduction of VAT on international parcels worth up to €150 will hit the entire Ukrainian economy. According to him, Ukrainian stores, importers, and manufacturers will suffer the most, as buyers will spend more money on foreign goods, leaving less for other purchases.
Volodymyr Popereshnyuk, co-owner of the Nova Group of Companies, said that the introduction of VAT on international parcels worth up to €150 will hit the entire Ukrainian economy. According to him, Ukrainian stores, importers, and manufacturers will suffer the most, as buyers will spend more money on foreign goods, leaving less for other purchases.
He spoke about this during the conference "Business and New Challenges. Dialogues with NV."
"People will not give up imported goods - more money will be spent on them. But there will be less money for retail, so our Ukrainian retail, Ukrainian importers, including Ukrainian manufacturers, will suffer. Therefore, everyone will lose," Popereshnyuk said.
Popereshnyuk explained that Ukraine is part of the global economy, so most of the goods that Ukrainians use are produced in different countries around the world. In his opinion, attempts to limit access to them through additional taxes will not help the Ukrainian economy.
In his Facebook post, Popereshnyuk also criticized the possible VAT increase and called on the state to reduce the tax burden on business. In his opinion, Ukraine now needs deregulation, privatization, and tax cuts.
Previously, dev.ua wrote that the Verkhovna Rada canceled the VAT exemption for international parcels worth up to €150. Under the new rules, purchases on foreign marketplaces will be subject to VAT at a rate of 20%, regardless of their value.
