Perplexity has announced the official launch of its Comet browser, which integrates powerful artificial intelligence features to radically improve the internet experience.
After a limited release that started on July 9th and attracted millions of users, the browser is now available for free download. It was previously also available to users with a Perplexity Max subscription for $200.
The developers claim that Comet will transform the internet, which is oversaturated with advertising and sales funnels, into a space where curiosity and productivity reign.
Comet combines the browser with the built-in Comet Assistant, an AI-based personal assistant that accompanies the user on every tab.
According to Perplexity, the number of questions users ask has increased by 6-18x since installing Comet. The assistant helps with research, coding, e-commerce, and other tasks, allowing you to get real answers and useful actions without distractions.
Perplexity announced that the traditional chatbot paradigm is outdated. The company introduced a new approach — Background Assistants. This is a personal team of AI assistants that work asynchronously and perform tasks from the user’s list in the background, turning curiosity into productivity.
Email Assistant (available to Max Subscribers) that can manage scheduling, draft replies, and perform other tasks in email.
The company also announced the imminent release of Comet for mobile devices. The mobile application, which is still in development, promises to remove advertising "garbage" and introduce advanced voice technology for interacting with assistants.
Additionally, to ensure quality content on the internet, Perplexity has launched the Comet Plus program. It involves partnerships with the world's leading publications and news sources, supporting "real journalism" rather than just a "content machine."
You can download Comet from the official website .
Perplexity previously offered Google $34.5 billion to buy the Chrome browser. A US court will uphold the forced sale of Chrome, but the legal process could drag on for years due to appeals.
