Perplexity noted that the priority of launching on Android is due to the large number of smartphone manufacturers who have approached the startup with a request to integrate Comet into their devices and solutions.
Perplexity, a company known for its AI-driven search solutions, has announced the release of a mobile version of its Comet browser for the Android platform.
The Comet browser is positioned as a tool that rethinks the process of searching and using the Internet through the integration of artificial intelligence:
Default Search: Users can set Perplexity as their default search engine.
Contextual Assistant: Tab recall feature allows you to ask questions to the AI assistant about the content of all open tabs.
Voice Mode: Ability to use voice mode to ask questions about open tabs.
Automatic summarization: The Assistant can summarize search results across all tabs.
Automated actions: Perplexity claims that the browser can conduct research and make purchases on behalf of the user.
Ad blocker: The Android version has a built-in ad blocker.
The company plans to add features such as a full-fledged password manager in the coming weeks, as well as new tools that will allow the assistant to perform more complex and time-consuming tasks, similar to those recently updated in the desktop version (for example, transferring data from a website to a spreadsheet).
The company confirmed that an iOS version will also be available soon.
Meanwhile, Amazon has sent a letter to Perplexity demanding that the AI startup block the Comet browser from making purchases on Amazon. It is rumored that this is competing with Amazon's AI shopping agent called Buy for Me.
