The company’s new feature is free for all Perplexity users in the US and is based on the company’s partnership with PayPal, Engadget reports.
Perplexity says its assistant can take into account the context of the chat when searching for products and use details the AI has learned about the user’s life and preferences to personalize results. Once the assistant finds the products it wants to show, the AI can present them as conveniently designed product cards, for example, with the pros and cons of each jacket and other relevant details taken from reviews and guides.
If a user likes one of the products found by Perplexity, they can purchase it directly through the assistant and pay using the payment details saved in their PayPal account. This «instant purchase» feature applies to all merchants that offer PayPal as a payment method.
«They have complete information about their customers, can process returns, build loyalty, and maintain post-purchase relationships, just like on their own sites,» Perplexity explained.
OpenAI previously announced the release of a new tool called «shopping research» ahead of Black Friday, which helps to better research information about potential purchases.
