Following the shooting at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where US President Donald Trump was scheduled to deliver a speech, law enforcement officers detained 31-year-old computer scientist and engineer Cole Thomas Allen, who is suspected of these illegal actions.

According to Wired, Allen’s name appeared in the media shortly before Trump himself published two photos of the suspect after his arrest.

According to US police, the suspect attacked a checkpoint at the Hilton Hotel but was intercepted by agents present there. Law enforcement officials say the suspect was carrying a shotgun, a pistol and several knives.

At a White House press conference after the shooting, Trump said one agent was injured but was saved from serious injury by a bulletproof vest. Trump added that the agent was «feeling good» and in «great shape.» No other injuries to attendees were reported.

Trump himself suggested that the attacker had intended to assassinate him. «People who have the most influence are usually the ones who are hunted,» he said.

A review of public records conducted by Wired shows that the suspect graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2025 with a master’s degree in computer science.

A photo of Allen on the Caltech website identifies him as a student in a mechanical engineering class, which the school describes as an «engineering design laboratory» for creating robots and autonomous vehicles.

According to the suspect’s LinkedIn profile, he had been working part-time at C2 Education, a private company that helps students prepare for exams, since March 2020. In December 2024, C2 Education even announced that the suspect was its «Teacher of the Month.»

Additionally, the shooting suspect has identified himself on his LinkedIn profile as a self-employed indie game developer since 2018. It appears that in 2018, he released a «fighting game» on Steam called Bohrdom.

The publication also recalls that before the attack that occurred on Saturday, Trump had already survived at least one assassination attempt during the first 15 months of his second term in office.

As dev.ua wrote, in a recent post about Tim Cook’s resignation, Trump said that the Apple CEO called him to «kiss his ass.»

President Trump also said that Nvidia’s most powerful chips will be for the United States only, and will not be sold to China.
