Arson at drone factory in Poland: Tusk calls fire sabotage, likely financed through cryptocurrency
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the fire at the Skarzysko-Kamyanna defense factory, owned by defense contractor WB Electronics, was a deliberate act of sabotage. The factory specializes in the production of unmanned systems and their components.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the fire at the Skarzysko-Kamyanna defense factory, owned by defense contractor WB Electronics, was a deliberate act of sabotage. The factory specializes in the production of unmanned systems and their components.
According to the head of the Polish government, the investigation has no doubts about the deliberate arson of the enterprise.
«Regarding the fires at the two factories… in the case of Skarzysko-Kamyanna, there is no doubt that it was deliberate arson, an act of sabotage,» Tusk stressed during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Polskie Radio reports .
He also mentioned another recent fire — at the JFG Composites facility in Lublin, which manufactures aircraft parts. Although there is currently no indisputable evidence regarding this case, authorities do not rule out sabotage there as well, given the specifics of the production.
Donald Tusk directly linked these attacks to Russia’s hybrid aggression and called on parliament to adopt a law on regulating the cryptocurrency market, which President Karol Nawrocki had previously vetoed.
According to Polish intelligence services, cryptocurrencies are the main mechanism that Russia uses to recruit and pay for the services of perpetrators of terrorist attacks and arson.
«Russia uses cryptocurrencies as the main mechanism for financing this type of operations. There is no doubt that the method of payment and recruitment of the attackers was based on cryptocurrencies,» the Prime Minister said.
The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that the coming weeks and months will be critical not only for the war in Ukraine, but also for the entire region, as the Russian Federation plans to further escalate and destabilize the situation in neighboring countries.
Law enforcement officers have detained seven people allegedly involved in the arson attack on the Ukrainian company Archer’s factory in the Czech Republic.
