A team of two developers from Ukraine has released a 1-4 player co-op survival horror game on Steam. They’ve been working on it for a year and a half.
According to the creators of Pilgrim of Darkness, the game is built on cooperative teamwork and panic management. One of the main mechanics is the fear system — the more afraid the player character is, the more dangerous the world becomes. If the character panics, it becomes much harder to avoid enemies, and this can put the entire team at risk.
«The game also supports heart rate integration using Pulsoid, which means your real heart rate can affect the level of panic in the game, making tense moments even more intense,» noted the VIWESA GAMES studio.
The gameplay of Pilgrim of Darkness is divided into two phases. During the day, players explore, gather resources, and prepare. Monsters mostly react to players in a state of panic or those who get too close. At night, hiding from monsters becomes more difficult, and the demonic boss begins to actively hunt the team.
«Our goal was to create a cooperative horror game where staying calm and working together is really important,» the developers noted.
Pilgrim of Darkness is currently available on Steam with a 25% release discount, which makes its price 243 UAH. The game has Ukrainian localization.
