Ukrainian military engineer has developed a drone that works on both optics and radio signals. What is known about it?

Ukrainian military engineer Viktor Trach has developed a UAV that can be controlled by two technologies at the same time — both by fiber optics and by radio signals.
This was reported on her Facebook page by former People’s Deputy and now Senior Lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Tetyana Chornovol, the commander of the platoon where the author of the development serves.
She posted a video of the first flight of her brother’s development.
«On the left is the screen — broadcasting of the radio-video signal, on the right is the optical one. One remote control, one control, synchronous. This is the invention of my platoon,» she explained.
According to her, fiber-optic drones currently have a lot of gaps, so using both technologies simultaneously, in her opinion, is very relevant.
«It is especially painful when the drone is large and carries a large payload, and losing it far from the target is a big stress for the entire calculation. However, nothing prevents this drone from reaching the target, even if it is not as good as with optics — on radio waves. And these are not all the advantages of dual control,» Chornovol added.
Voyskova shared that during the first test, the lost optical signal was restored after 4 km. «The reason is simple, not all ‘breaks’ are optical breaks. More often, these are loops that jam the video, but during the flight, the optical loops unravel and voila — the optical video channel is restored,» says Chornovol.
According to the senior lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the use of a radio signal along with optics increases the price of the basic equipment of an optical drone by only 2,500 UAH.
«We are still refining the technology. This is a drone that we modified ourselves in the video. We communicate with many manufacturers, thank you to „General Chereshnya“, who saw the future in this technology and made the first 10 13-inch dual-control drones for us so that we could test the technology,» said Chornovol.
She also called on Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov to pay attention to this technology.
