"Prospects are doubtful". Hetmantsev said that the introduction of a tax on electric vehicles is not yet being considered
Danylo Hetmantsev, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada’s Finance Committee, said that no initiatives to introduce new taxes for electric car owners are currently being considered. According to him, despite the presence of relevant draft laws in the Committee, they have no real prospects.
Danylo Hetmantsev, the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada’s Finance Committee, said that no initiatives to introduce new taxes for electric car owners are currently being considered. According to him, despite the presence of relevant draft laws in the Committee, they have no real prospects.
«The Committee has many draft laws that, to put it mildly, have questionable prospects. Therefore, no, the tax on electric cars, like any other new taxes, is not being considered by the Committee!», Hetmantsev emphasized .
Thus, he commented on the words of MP Serhiy Nagornyak, who voiced the idea of gradation of payments depending on the cost of the car. According to his proposal, owners of electric cars priced at about $30,000 would have to pay up to UAH 4,000 per month. The amount would depend on the class of the car: the more expensive the model, the higher the fee.
The need to introduce a tax on electric cars is explained by the rapid growth in the number of such cars. According to People’s Deputy Yuriy Kamelchuk, last year the number of electric cars in Ukraine increased from 20,000 to 300,000 units.
Proponents of a tax on electric cars point out that drivers of cars with internal combustion engines directly finance road repairs through the excise tax on each liter of fuel purchased. Since electric cars consume electricity, not gasoline or diesel, their owners effectively use the common infrastructure without participating in its financing.
