«We’ve reduced the price of o3 by 80%!!! Looking forward to seeing what people do with it now», — Altman wrote on his X (Twitter).
He added that users will also «be happy» with the price of the o3-pro.
Currently, the price for 1 million input tokens (about 750,000 words) for the o3 model is $10, and 1 million output tokens are $40. Taking into account the 80% price drop, the new prices will be $2 and $8, respectively.
OpenAI launched o3 in early April as its «most advanced reasoning model,» outperforming its predecessors in tests of math, coding, reasoning, science, and visual perception. Sam Altman noted that o3 and o4-mini could be the last standalone AI reasoning models in ChatGPT before GPT-5, a model that the company says will merge traditional models like GPT-4.1 with its reasoning models.
