"War, no electricity for days! And they come to check us..." The President of Kyivstar spoke about inspections by regulatory authorities during blackouts

President of Kyivstar Oleksandr Komarov shared that during recent blackouts, the mobile operator became the object of inspection by regulatory authorities.
«October 9-10 and the week before that were a situation of mass blackouts… From my point of view, both in Sumy, Shostka, and Chernihiv we did our best. Our overall network efficiency was above 50% — and this is during a war, when there is no electricity for days! And they come to check us… I don’t understand who is not satisfied and how dissatisfied they are, because during a war we maintain communication on 50% of the network. It is clear that it is imperfect, but because this is war,» Komarov shared during his speech at the Kyiv International Economic Forum.
According to him, during mass blackouts, the telecom operator has an obligation to keep the network on battery power for about 8 hours, and then connect generators and keep it on for another 25-30 hours, but he expects these obligations to be strengthened at the initiative of the state.
«I think our obligations will be increased further, because everyone is expecting a very difficult winter,» he predicts.
Earlier, as dev.ua wrote, Vodafone and Lifecell also told how long their networks would be able to last without power after the Russian attack.
Meanwhile, before the commercial launch of the satellite communication project from a smartphone (Direct-to-Cell), which is being implemented by Kyivstar and Starlink, the relevant telecom regulator has reservations.
