Spotify has launched a new beta feature, Prompted Playlist, which allows users to customize playlists to their preferences with text prompts.
Prompted Playlists, which are launching initially in New Zealand, allow users to input exactly what they want to listen to, with as much detail as they like. Spotify’s AI then creates a playlist based on those instructions and the user’s listening history.
Users can also set Prompted Playlists to update regularly with new songs based on the same query, effectively allowing you to create a Discover Weekly playlist using your own algorithm.
«You can ask for ‘music from my favorite artists from the last five years’ and then add ‘and include rare tracks I haven’t heard before’. Or you can ask for ‘energetic pop and hip-hop for a 30-minute 5K run that maintains a steady pace and then transitions into calm songs to cool down’ and add something like ‘add music from this year’s most popular movies and most talked-about TV shows that fit my taste.’ You choose how broad or specific your request is,» Spotify describes the feature.

The service’s specialists have also prepared a set of prompts in English, which will be displayed as personalized playlists on the main page.
Spotify has previously updated its AI policies, adding DDEX AI-based annotations to song metadata and enabling a filter to filter out massive duplicates and cheating schemes. The service also bans tracks with fake artist voices and promises to remove such recordings.
