QA Lead at IT company DiKo Code Anastasia Melnikova launched the EDTOP service, which helps parents choose a school based on NMT results, statistics, and reviews. The idea arose after moving to Kyiv, when she was looking for an educational institution for her 11-year-old son.
As the developer told dev.ua, official data on the results of the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) are open, but they are extremely inconvenient to use. The information is presented in the form of separate tables, which makes it difficult to compare schools with each other and analyze their results.
«I wanted to quickly answer a simple question: which school is really stronger and whether it consistently shows good results. But to do this, I had to manually collect and analyze large amounts of data,» says Anastasia.
This is how the EDTOP service appeared, which was created using the vibe coding approach. The platform automatically processes the official NMT results and generates an integral rating for each school.
The service now allows:
view the overall ranking of schools;
see the location of the educational institution within the city, region and all of Ukraine;
analyze changes in NMT results over different years;
review the results separately for each subject to assess whether the school is more oriented towards technical or humanities;
get acquainted with general information about the educational institution and user reviews.
According to the author of the project, the NMT results themselves are only one component of choosing a school.
Therefore, the upcoming update will be a tool for conveniently comparing two or more educational institutions based on key parameters. This should help parents form a shortlist of candidates and make the final choice easier.
The team is also working on creating a comprehensive ranking that will take into account not only academic results, but also other factors important to children and their parents. In particular, it is planned to analyze user reviews, as well as the general tone of mentions of the educational institution on the Internet.
According to Anastasia, the ultimate goal of the project is to make choosing a school as simple as choosing a hotel or restaurant: when in one place you can see statistics, dynamics, the opinions of other users, and quickly compare several options.
