German company Quantum Systems, known for developing reconnaissance drones, has announced the opening of a new engineering office and research and development center in the United States of America.
Company representatives announced the expansion of their presence in the American market in an official press release.
The new office is located in Upland Park in Huntsville, Alabama. The location was not chosen by chance - it is next to the Cummings Research Park, which is the second largest hub of its kind in the United States.
Huntsville, informally known as “Rocket City,” is a powerhouse in the U.S. aerospace and defense ecosystem. It is home to the U.S. Army’s software offices and major defense contractors: Lockheed Martin, RTX, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, BAE Systems, and Boeing. The company believes that this proximity will bring engineering resources closer to key customers.
“Opening a representative office here will allow us to work more closely with customers, expand our engineering team, and accelerate the development of next-generation unmanned systems. We are also excited to become part of the Huntsville community, collaborate with local partners, and contribute to the further development of one of the nation’s leading defense technology centers,” said Quantum Systems CEO Dave Sharpin.
Quantum Systems previously raised $1.2 billion in Series D funding , which raised its valuation to $8 billion. Thanks to the raised funding, the German UAV manufacturer says the company intends to accelerate the transition from manufacturing “standalone unmanned platforms” to implementing “a compatible family of unmanned systems, unified through the company’s MOSAIC UXS software ecosystem.”
