The startup's head believes that the new artificial intelligence agent will be able to perform a week's worth of recruiter work with a single request.
Artificial intelligence could put HR managers out of work within six months, according to a bold prediction made by Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, in an interview with The Verge, noting that the AI agent they developed could fully take over the duties of a recruiter.
According to Srinivas, the new browser-integrated AI assistant Comet can independently find engineers who studied at a specific university and worked at a specific company, collect their LinkedIn profiles into a convenient spreadsheet, find their contact details, and prepare personalized emails for mailing.
The head of Perplexity claims that a recruiter’s weekly workload of finding and initial contact with candidates will be reduced to a single prompt. This tool, in his opinion, surpasses even the paid LinkedIn Premium subscription.
“To be honest, LinkedIn is very difficult to search. It doesn’t really have a working search engine,” Srinivas explained. He added that the AI agent “finds all these shortcuts that we find with these filters — people search, connections search — and that gives us a recruiting power that was never possible before.”
According to Perplexity's CEO, the implementation of such a solution will take 6 to 12 months with the emergence of powerful large language models like GPT-5 or Claude 4.5.
