Russia is investigating the case of Telegram founder Pavel Durov as part of criminal proceedings for “facilitating terrorist activities.”
This was reported by Reuters, citing the state-run "Russian newspaper" with reference to the Federal Security Service (FSB).
“The actions of Telegram’s head P. Durov are being investigated as part of a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 (facilitation of terrorist activities) of the Criminal Code of Russia,” the Russian newspaper reported.
Recall that on February 10, Roskomnadzor officially began measures to restrict the operation of Telegram in Russia, trying to convince Russians to use the state-owned MAX messenger.
Durov responded to this and recalled Iran's failed attempts to force people to use the state analogue.
However, the former head of the Cyber Police, Serhiy Demediuk, is sure that what is being reported in the Russian media is a special "PR campaign." And Telegram will not be blocked completely. Only for a certain category of citizens.
