"There is no single 'king' in architecture." The CEO of Ukrainian Swarmer explained how drone swarm technology works

The head of the Ukrainian startup Swarmer, Serhiy Kuprienko, spoke about the successful IPO and described the drone swarm technology his company is working on.
In March, Swarmer, a developer of drone swarm software, announced the completion of its initial public offering. At the time, the Ukrainian software maker’s share price rose from $5 to $64.
«From the company’s point of view, everything turned out successfully: we raised funds as planned. That is, we issued 3 million shares at $5 each and raised $15 million. And in general, we are working according to plan. Everything else is already the market,» Kuprienko noted in an interview with DOU.
He added that after the IPO is complete, it is very easy to analyze and say what the «correct» share price should have been. But on the eve of the public offering and approval of the final price, it does not seem so obvious.
«Do I think we did a bad job? Absolutely not. We realistically assessed the market and our own performance. From the point of view of the company and the board of directors, the IPO was successful,» says Serhiy Kuprienko.
According to the head of Swarmer, the company is creating a system in which each drone independently plans its actions and constantly coordinates them with other UAVs.
«For example, if one drone is shot down and the target is not hit, another one automatically takes over the task. And all this happens continuously and decentralizedly — there is no single ‘king’ in the architecture who gives out commands,» he explained.
Kuprienko pointed out that one of the advantages of such a system is its resistance to loss of communication — if part of the system is suppressed and communication with the operator is lost, the drones maintain communication with each other and continue to perform the task.
«In general, the approach is this: a swarm system is a decentralized autonomous system in which each element constantly makes decisions and coordinates them with others. This is not controlling several drones from one station. Such a mode exists, but it is one of the basic, simplest ones,» said the CEO of Swarmer.
Serhiy Kuprienko pointed out that the developers' goal is to eliminate the need for pilots for each individual device. This will eliminate the need for them to micromanage each drone and allow them to work at the level of the goals and priorities of the operation.
