ROOH: How a Ukrainian e-scooter startup is shaping urban mobility infrastructure despite the war
At a time when most Ukrainian businesses are struggling to survive, companies are emerging that are not only adapting to wartime realities but also demonstrating the growth rates typical of a peaceful market. One such example is electric scooter service ROOH, which has expanded from one city to a network of 15 in two years and announced plans to reach more than 20 cities by 2026.
This development shows that the demand for high-quality urban mobility in Ukraine is not just persisting — it is being re-formed, under the influence of new economic realities and the demand for fast, affordable, and environmentally friendly solutions.
Starting in a war year: why ROOH took a risk and made no mistake
The ROOH service entered the market in 2023 — at a time when most investment flows were frozen and the transport sector was operating with minimal resources.
What could have been a critical barrier for the young company became a point of differentiation. ROOH entered a niche that remained unfilled: short city trips, where taxis are too expensive, public transportation is congested, and owning a car is inefficient.
In the first year, the service fleet grew from 128 to 450 units, and a year later, to 1,000 electric scooters in 15 cities of Ukraine.
Growing demand: why cities need such services
ROOH works not only with end-user requests. The company is gradually building an ecosystem of interaction with cities, offering what municipalities are actually unable to provide on their own:
operational mobility for short trips;
relieving city centers from excessive car traffic;
reducing the load on public transport;
an ecological alternative to classic urban transportation.
For Ukrainian cities — especially in times of war, budget shortages, and the need for quick solutions — this is a tool that allows you to improve the quality of the urban environment without additional capital expenditures.
Growth strategy: ROOH chooses partnerships, not just investments
One of the company’s key differentiators is its approach to raising capital. Co-founders Vladislav Chesnokov and Bohdan Yaroshenko emphasize that they are not interested in «short» money.
«We are not just looking for investments — we are looking for partners who believe in the development of Ukrainian cities together with us,» ROOH explains.
For the service, it is important not only to scale quickly, but also to form a long-term model of presence in cities. This includes improving technology, raising service standards, developing the application, and working on security.
The future of the market: what to expect from Ukrainian micromobility
The Ukrainian car sharing market continues to take shape, and ROOH is actually setting the pace for the entire industry. Mobility in cities is no longer just a matter of transportation — it is a matter of infrastructure, economic development, and comfort for people.
The company’s goals for 2026 — more than 20 cities and 2,000 units of equipment — look realistic, given market dynamics and growing demand.
ROOH as a case study for Ukrainian business
The story of ROOH is about how even in the most difficult conditions, Ukrainian entrepreneurs are able to create products that change the urban environment and shape new markets.
The company’s success is not a coincidence. It is the result of a combination of:
real demand;
correct positioning;
technological approach;
partnership strategies;
and determination to build a business in a country fighting for its future.
ROOH is not just an electric scooter service. It is an example of how Ukrainian innovations can be born in a crisis and remain in demand. https://rooh.com.ua
