On the night of August 21, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine with drones and missiles. Explosions were heard in Mukachevo, Lutsk, Lviv, Rivne, Zaporizhia, and Kyiv. The strike on the western regions was carried out at around 4 a.m. with Kalibr cruise missiles from the sea and Kh-101 cruise missiles from the air, launched from a Tu-95MS bomber.
According to the Mukachevo City Council, as of 7:00 a.m., 10 people injured in the Russian strike were taken to St. Martin’s Hospital.
Mukachevo Mayor Andriy Baloga reported that cruise missiles hit a civilian enterprise.
«Today, Mukachevo was subjected to a targeted attack by the enemy with cruise missiles. The target was a civilian enterprise that provided work for thousands of residents of our community and district. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the strike caused a large-scale fire and there are victims who are being provided with all necessary assistance», — Baloga wrote.
According to journalist and Uzhhorod City Council deputy Vitaliy Glagola, who refers to his sources, we are talking about the Flextronics plant of the American company Flex International, which is one of the world leaders in contract electronics production.
The plant in Mukachevo focuses on plastic molding, and also produces components for electrical engineering, coffee makers, printer cartridges, electronic price tags, and other products.
«After the impact, the premises of the enterprise instantly caught fire. According to my information, there were people on the territory of the plant. There are victims,» he wrote.
Glagola added that about 600 workers were at the Flex plant at the time of the missile attack. Before the strike, they were urgently evacuated from the workshops and warehouses to a specially equipped place on the plant’s territory.
The Flex plant in Mukachevo has been operating for over 13 years. Its production facilities cover an area of 55,000 square meters, and the company employs over 2,600 people.
«The company is strengthening the automation of processes to increase work efficiency and the quality of manufactured products. Last year, the company paid over UAH 340 million to budgets of various levels, and the average salary is UAH 35,000,» reported the head of the Transcarpathian OVA, Myroslav Biletsky, who visited the Flex enterprise in Mukachevo in May.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the thesis that the mere presence of American companies would stop the new aggression of the Russian Federation .
«More than two dozen American companies operate in Ukraine, including in temporarily occupied territories. This did not stop Putin,» he noted.
Zelensky also commented on the Russian strike on Mukachevo.
«They spent several cruise missiles against an American enterprise in Transcarpathia. It was an ordinary civilian enterprise, an American investment. They produced such familiar household items as coffee machines. And this is also a target for the Russians. Very revealing,» the president noted.
He added that the fire at the enterprise is still being extinguished. There are currently 15 victims who are being assisted.
According to Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, the Flex plant in Mukachevo is a completely civilian facility that «has nothing to do with defense or the military.»
«This is not the first Russian attack on American businesses in Ukraine, following the strikes on Boeing’s offices in Kyiv earlier this year and other attacks. No military logic or necessity, just terror against people, businesses, and normal life in our country,» Sybiga noted.
