The SBU has detained a Russian spy operating in one of the leading academies of the Ministry of Defense. The attacker turned out to be an associate professor at the research center, who was trying to pass secret documentation on the latest Ukrainian drones to the enemy.
According to the SBU press service, the agent copied and forwarded to his Russian supervisor design documentation for the Defense Forces' newest strike drones.
In addition to espionage, the "mole" was engaged in direct sabotage. While conducting an expert assessment of tactical and technical characteristics, he deliberately wrote negative conclusions on test projects of unmanned and robotic systems of Ukrainian production. The Russian agent unreasonably recognized these developments as "unpromising" and supposedly unsuitable for the front, trying to block their supply to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Counterintelligence recorded every move of the person involved. Moreover, the SBU used the agent to disinform the enemy and completely prevented the leakage of secret technologies of the Ukrainian defense complex.
The attacker was caught red-handed in his office while trying to send another batch of documents to the Russian Federation.
Russian military intelligence tracked down the associate professor through his acquaintance from the Russian Federation. For cooperating with the occupiers, the man expected to receive a "position" in the invading administration in the event of occupation.
During the searches, computer equipment and two mobile phones, which he used to maintain secret communication with the Russian GRU, were seized from the detainee.
SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The court chose a preventive measure for the perpetrator - detention without bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The special operation was carried out jointly with investigators of the SBU Department in the Odessa region under the procedural guidance of the Odessa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
