The aggressor's Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the fact of the Oreshnik strike on the outskirts of Lviv. Ukraine is calling for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and the Ukraine-NATO Council.
What happened
On the eve of the strike, President Zelenskyy, in his evening address, urged citizens not to ignore the air alert in the near future. Subsequently, a number of Telegram channels spread information about the possible use of the Oreshnik complex.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., an air alert was declared throughout Ukraine due to the threat of Russian use of ballistic missiles from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region.
Around midnight on January 8, the enemy struck near Lviv. Residents reported sounds similar to a series of explosions. Some surveillance camera videos captured flashes that are very similar to those when the Dnieper was struck on November 21, 2024 by a medium-range Oreshnik missile.

According to the Monitor channel, the cascade of explosions that echoed in the Lviv region was caused by the Oreshnyk missile system with non-nuclear equipment. The West Air Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the speed was about 13,000 km/h.
On the morning of January 9, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed the use of the Oreshnik, saying it was a "response" to "91 drones at Putin's residence."
Consequences of the impact
The head of the Lviv Regional Military (State) Administration, Maksym Kozytsky, announced that laboratory tests were conducted at the site of the missile attack on critical infrastructure. According to their results, no excess levels of harmful substances in the air were detected, and the radiation background remained within normal limits.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy reported that as a result of the rocket attack in the village of Rudno, Lviv community, an automatic gas safety system was triggered. For safety reasons, gas supply was temporarily suspended for 376 subscribers on several streets. Sadovy noted that the protection was triggered by a shock wave.

Russia claims it used an intermediate range ballistic missile, so-called "Oreshnik", against Lviv region.
Such a strike close to the EU and NATO border is a serious threat to the security on the European continent and a test for the transatlantic community. We demand strong responses...
