Dmytro Gryn shared details about the change in the business model and the related layoffs in an interview with Forbes Ukraine. Earlier, information about the reduction of the Jooble team appeared in the profile Telegram channel «Overheard in IT».
According to the company’s CEO, over the past three years, Jooble has actively invested in deep localization in foreign markets, creating separate teams for specific countries and ensuring a physical presence at specialized events. However, in conditions where market demand has become less predictable, such a broad presence in the field has ceased to justify itself.
As part of the new strategy, the company is creating a single English-speaking team that will centrally work with most European markets and flexibly respond to fluctuations in demand. At the same time, Jooble leaves dedicated fixed teams for the largest and least sensitive to instability economies — Germany, France and the USA. The reduction of broad localization led to a 16% reduction in staff (45 specialists), of which 25 people were directly responsible for work in local markets.
«Market demand is no longer predictable in any way. Previously, there was a certain seasonality. Now the positions of American high-ranking officials influence the expectations of businesses around the world much more than factors that can be relied on,» said Grin.
He said the geopolitical situation and AI have created the longest economic uncertainty in modern history. He added that the new «rules of the game are unclear» and even the Covid pandemic has made the market more sensitive.
Recall that the layoffs affected mainly line employees of almost all specializations, while lead specialists and managers were retained at Jooble. The laid-off employees were paid one additional salary as severance pay, but the company decided not to leave the work equipment.
