Marketing agency Promodo reported an increase in scammers who offer people easy extra income on behalf of a company. The attackers are looking for potential victims on popular job search platforms and contacting them via instant messengers and email.
Promodo notes that they have received numerous complaints from people who have encountered scammers, so they decided to publicly disclose the details of the criminal scheme.
How the scammer scheme works
Criminals collect email addresses and phone numbers on job search services such as Jobstreet, Uplers, and LinkedIn. Then they write in messengers (especially from Russian numbers) or by mail, offering "extra income in your free time."
To lull you into a stupor, scammers send a link to the official Promodo website and indicate the company's real physical address.
How to spot a real Promodo recruiter
The agency emphasizes that its HR team works to completely different standards.
Never offers dubious "extra work": most vacancies at Promodo are full-time.
Refers only to official vacancies: recruiters always mention a specific position, the availability of which can be checked on the official career section on the Promodo website.
The hiring procedure is followed: the company necessarily requests a resume and invites the candidate for a full interview.
What to do if you receive a suspicious message
Promodo urges you to be careful and never transfer funds or provide personal data to dubious "recruiters."
If you have been written to on behalf of a company with a similar offer, report it to the official email address [email protected] or to the agency's official pages on LinkedIn, Instagram, or Facebook.
The Promodo team is already taking steps to expose the attackers and is urging other companies and job seekers to be vigilant.
