Ukrainian shooter Shatterline is transforming again - the game will become single-player and paid
Ukrainian studio Frag Lab announced that the multiplayer servers of the shooter Shatterline will soon be closed, but the game will continue to exist as a paid single-player project.
Ukrainian studio Frag Lab announced that the multiplayer servers of the shooter Shatterline will soon be closed, but the game will continue to exist as a paid single-player project.
«Starting June 26, 2025, Shatterline will shift its focus from multiplayer to single-player. This means that the multiplayer servers will be shut down, but the game itself is far from finished», — the developers wrote on their blog.
Frag Lab noted that they will focus on the single-player game mode, which will receive improvements. New features, missions, and improvements will be added to it.
Additionally, Shatterline will transition from a free-to-play to a one-time purchase model on June 26. Players who already own the game will retain access after the transition to a paid model. However, in-game purchases have already been disabled, and users who have spent money on Shatterline in the past 15 days can get their money back.
«This decision was not easy for us, but it will allow us to focus our resources on creating an even better single-player experience. We have seen your passion for Shatterline, and we are excited to create an unforgettable single-player journey for you,» the developers explain their decision.
Previously on Shatterline
Shatterline has a rocky development history that began in March 2019 when Frag Lab and Wargaming announced their collaboration on the project. It continued even after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, but in August 2022, Wargaming withdrew from the project.
Frag Lab managed to find other sources of funding and released Shatterline on September 8 in Steam Early Access, where the game remained for about 2 years until August 1, 2024. It was offered with a f2p model with paid battle passes, but in recent seasons the developers have made even those free.
The studio later announced that it was ending early access and shutting down servers to focus on preparing for a full launch in EGS, where the project would not be free as before. There, Shatterline was acquired by web3 company Faraway as a publisher and released in December last year for $4.99 (or 92 UAH for the Ukrainian region). At the same time, the project introduced NFT and crypto token elements that were not present in early access.
According to the developers, such a low paywall deterred cheaters. According to them, this is one of the worst problems for any free-to-play competitive game. However, the project later became shareware again.
