“How the hell could you be so wrong?” AI agent leaked company founder’s personal bank accounts and expenses into work Slack

IT founder and investor Shane Mack found himself in a rather embarrassing situation after his own AI agent posted private financial data in a corporate chat. The bot revealed the entrepreneur's bank balance and detailed expense report to the entire team.

Mack spoke about this incident on the social network X (Twitter), sharing screenshots of correspondence with an artificial intelligence-based "colleague" - Grok Bot from SpaceXAI, writes Futurism.

How the data leak happened

The AI bot delivered a detailed “monthly financial audit” of the businessman directly to the Executive Team Slack channel. The report detailed the expenses for Mac’s personal project — building a home gym, including the cost of a septic tank and paying off credit cards. The bot posted the message on Mac’s behalf.

“I’m embarrassed to share this, but it scared me to death. Last Thursday, an AI assistant posted my personal bank balances on our company Slack. On my behalf. It detailed all my expenses. And then apologized,” said Shane Mack.

In a chat with the bot, the angry entrepreneur asked, “How the hell could you get this wrong? This is literally my bank balance in front of our entire team!” To which Grok Bot replied succinctly, “It’s my fault — I’m checking the Exec Team channel right now and deleting it if it’s still there.”

Cause of the incident

As the investor later admitted, it was his own mistake. He gave access to his bank accounts to one Grok Bot, not realizing that it could exchange data with another bot that managed the company's Slack.

"I've turned off everything personal for now. I need to find a better way to manage permissions and control what assistants can do..." added Mack.

Real case or "hype" for promotion?

The story garnered over 800,000 views on social media, but it also sparked not only sympathy but also skepticism.

Some users accused Mac of so-called "faming." The thing is that the entrepreneur is currently developing his own artificial intelligence tool designed to unite different AI assistants and configure security and control rules between them - that is, solving the very problem he wrote about.

Shane Mack himself denies the accusations of forgery and claims that the story is 100% real.
