At the launch, the White House said Americans could “ask any question” and get a timely answer. Trump himself called America.gov “pretty damn good” and said the service was the first to offer users an experience that “matches the state of the art, and in some ways surpasses it.”
When America.gov was asked if there was widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election, the bot responded that federal audits had not found fraud on a scale that could have changed the outcome of the election. It also confirmed that Joe Biden had won that election.
The responses were quickly picked up by Democrats. Senator Adam Schiff posted a screenshot of the chatbot's response and joked that it was "finally a direct response from someone in the Trump administration."

However, America.gov became much more cautious the next day. When asked about the 2020 election, it replied: “I do not provide political commentary or analysis of past elections.” It is not known whether the Trump administration has changed the chatbot’s settings in the wake of the attention. The White House, when asked by AFP, only said that America.gov would continue to be updated to provide “the most accurate and reliable federal information.”
But the bot did not shy away from all controversial topics. When asked about Trump's claim that the US had experienced "the worst inflation in history" under Biden's presidency, America.gov replied that official data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics did not support this.
The Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas noted that at least on the first day of operation, the chatbot relied on official government documents even when they contradicted the theses of the administration that created it.
