Such a change could turn the app model upside down — it could be great for users, but a nightmare for some companies, Andrew Bosworth said in a podcast episode, Business Insider writes .
In his opinion, instead of opening a specific application, such as Spotify, to listen to music, it is better to simply tell artificial intelligence what you want and it will do the rest.
“It will alienate a lot of companies’ brands, which I think will be very challenging for a whole generation of brands,” he said.
Brands "want me to be tied to them. I don't want to be tied," he added.
This could upend the monetization methods of apps like Spotify and Netflix, which make money from advertising, subscriptions, and premium offerings.
Reasoning models and AI agents are already negatively impacting mid-sized companies that offer various applications as a service.
Such companies find themselves in a difficult position: on the one hand, they are pressured by nimble market participants who own artificial intelligence technologies and can reproduce programs for a much lower price, and on the other hand, by technology giants such as Microsoft and Salesforce, which are investing billions of dollars in the AI race.
AlixPartners, which conducted research on this topic, believes that many mid-sized companies involved in enterprise software development will face threats to their survival over the next 24 months.
Ultimately, Bosworth believes the transition from a multitude of apps to a powerful AI-powered interface is worth it.
"This is a positive factor, because now the efficiency of work and the price for it are important. Many companies will not like this," he said.
