The rocket and AI company showed off the prototype to some investors and other interested parties ahead of its mega-IPO, according to people familiar with the matter. The device features a sleek design and is thinner than an iPhone.
However, the company warned that the project is at a fairly early stage, so the design could still change.
Musk denied this information, calling it "absolutely false."
At the same time, SpaceX, along with Tesla, does have the manufacturing expertise needed to launch mass production of a line of Shi devices — not to mention access to the chips needed to provide computing power directly on the gadgets themselves, writes TechCrunch. Like OpenAI, SpaceX’s prototype reportedly runs on its own operating system and integrates technology from Musk’s xAI, the AI company SpaceX acquired earlier this year . This will help keep new devices from being dependent on third-party platforms (like Google’s Android). But the developers are also aiming to create something fundamentally new — with native AI interfaces.
