UPD. "We failed to keep ShIntern in the "underground"." Mono wanted to recruit ShInterns quietly, but publicity on social networks thwarted the plans. dev.ua tells the details about the "mysterious" program

mono is holding its second recruitment for ShIntern, but this time they decided to do it quietly — exclusively through professional communities — to avoid irrelevant applications. Such "secretiveness" inadvertently led to the fact that the spread of announcements about it on social networks was perceived as fraudulent.

So, dev.ua asked the company about the purpose of the internship, requirements for candidates, employment opportunities, and plans.

Prehistory

On LinkedIn, developer Olga Mageria shared a screenshot of a post announcing that mono is opening a second ShInternship.

The author of the post said that he saw this information in a closed Telegram channel, but did not find any official confirmation of this. A link to registration is provided at the end.

So, Olga assumed that such information is being spread by scammers to gain access to confidential data through phishing.

But it turned out that mono does indeed conduct an internship, and the second round of interns is currently underway.

"I officially confirm that the IT company mono is holding the ShInternship for the second time. Last time we received too many irrelevant applications, so this time we decided to invite only through professional communities and specialized HEIs," mono reported.

After explaining mono, Olga deleted the post.

How the idea of ShInternship came about

mono is actively implementing AI within the company, so the team needed to be strengthened.

"We decided to add a fresh perspective to the tasks and grow specialists in the spirit of mono from talented young people. That's how the idea of an internship came about: we give SHInterns experience, practice, and a significant line in their resume, and we invite the best to join us," the company said.

Successful results of the first set

The first SHInternship took place in August-October 2025, when the company received over 1,250 applications and selected 12 interns.

"The plan was to hire 1-2. However, one ShIntern received an offer within a month. After completing the program, 7 more remained and are now working in different mono teams," the company added.

Differences of the second set

After the success of the first set, the company decided to repeat.

"We are considering the possibility of holding ShInternships regularly (several times a year), so we decided to limit the number of interns in the recruitment. Moreover, the involvement of mentors is an additional burden. We expect to keep the two most talented people in the team, but who knows."

Last year, the company received many irrelevant applications: the stack did not match the request, experienced specialists applied. So the selection process was long and complicated.

"Since this time there will be 7 ShInterns, not 12, we focused on a narrower audience. We turned to specialized HEIs, AI communities, etc. In fact, we failed to keep ShInternship "underground", because there are many people who want to work in mono, so the information spreads natively."

Also this time, we raised the bar from 3rd to 4th grade, adding JavaScript to the stack.

"Although overall the requirements have increased, because the mentors have already seen the level of previous SHInterns in practice. So we will be even more selective in our selection."

How is the training going?

The internship takes place online, but you can work offline in the Kyiv and Dnipro offices.

Last time, interns were invited to a networking meeting with the team, which was additional encouragement and inspiration.

"ShInterns are involved in real tasks: existing ones or those proposed by the intern. No boring lectures, just practice, mentorship, and the experience of colleagues. This time we are recruiting for AI R&D and Data Science teams. At the end of the program, ShInterns present their projects."
