The auction was expected to fetch a modest $40,000-$60,000 for Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's iconic leather jacket, but the final bid exceeded expectations by almost twenty times. All proceeds from the sale will go to charity.
A Tom Ford leather jacket, previously worn and signed by Jensen Huang, went up for auction at Sotheby's on Friday, July 17. It sold for $960,000, Dexerto reports .
Some experts believe such a high price for the item is evidence that collectors are actively seeking artifacts and collectibles related to the artificial intelligence boom.
The lot description on Sotheby's website states: "The 'Jensen Jacket' has become a relic of the simple belief that the future is built by people brave enough to travel into the unknown - to where no one else sees what they see. This is not just a jacket. This is the uniform of the 'first to believe.'"
Other CEOs are also keen to get their hands on a “Jensen jacket.” Back in 2024, Huang gifted one of his leather jackets to Zuckerberg, who remarked, “It’s doubly valuable because it’s already been worn.”
