Swiss cybersecurity company Prodaft has launched an initiative called “Sell Your Source,” in which it buys verified and outdated accounts on hacking forums.
The goal is to use these accounts to infiltrate cybercriminal spaces and communities, gathering valuable information that could lead to the exposure of cybercrimes, writes Bleeping Computer.
“As a threat intelligence company, we specialize in obtaining information about cybercriminal infrastructure, finding patterns, tactics, methods, and procedures that help us understand adversary networks, and detect and mitigate potential cyberattacks,” the company explains.
So Prodaft decided to purchase accounts on hacking forums to gain access to the dark web and illegal markets.
The company is currently interested in purchasing accounts for cybercrime forums XSS, Exploit.in, RAMP4U, Verified, and Breachforums and offers to pay extra for accounts with moderator or administrator rights.
However, the company only requires accounts created before December 2022 that have no history of cybercrime or unethical activity, and are not on the FBI or other law enforcement wanted list. Therefore, each account will undergo a thorough review.
Prodaft claims that the transfer process is anonymous. While the company will notify law enforcement of account purchases, it promises not to disclose confidential information.
Sellers can anonymously contact Prodaft via TOX or email and share details to begin the account verification process.
Once the account is approved for purchase, the company will make an offer to the seller. Payment methods include Bitcoin, Monero, and any other cryptocurrency the seller prefers.
Prodaft does not disclose the price, but says that the amount will depend on many factors.
Prodaft also promoted its new initiative directly on hacker forums, using an old account on the Russian-language XSS cybercrime forum. Incidentally, the website of the “Sell Your Source” initiative is in two languages: English and Russian.
