Dario Amodei received $18 million in compensation last year, according to documents filed by the company for its initial public offering (IPO), Reuters reports .
The bulk of Anthropic’s founders’ compensation packages are stock and options. Last July, the annual salaries of Dario Amodei and his sister Daniela Amodei (Anthropic’s president) doubled to $1.4 million. Daniela’s total income for 2025 was $16.4 million due to stock grants.
The board of directors approved new restricted stock units (RSUs) for the siblings, the payments of which are tied to further work in the company and the successful completion of the IPO.
Courtney Yu, research director at Equilar, a research firm, said $18 million is relatively small for the CEO of a company with a potential $2 trillion valuation. However, with six other co-founders, Amodei’s share of the total capital may be distributed differently than in companies with a single leader.
According to the AFL-CIO, the average compensation of CEOs of companies in the S&P 500 index increased by 21% to $22.8 million per year (excluding Elon Musk's special package of $158 billion at Tesla).

Oracle: Co-CEO Clayton Maguire received $627.5 million.
Alphabet: Sundar Pichai formally received $10.9 million (of which $8.8 million went to personal security), but the actual compensation realized (taking into account changes in share value) amounted to $213.9 million.
Amazon: Andy Jassy received $2.1 million in reported earnings (mostly security and flight expenses), while actual earnings with shares reached $13.2 million.
SpaceX: Elon Musk formally received a minimum salary of $54,080, but he was promised super-voting shares if he reached a capitalization of $7.5 trillion and sent 1 million people to Mars.
The IPO documents state that Dario and Daniela Amodei, along with other co-founders, have pledged to donate 80% of their Anthropic shares to charity.
In his essay, Dario Amodei emphasized that wealthy people have an obligation to help solve the problems arising from the rapid implementation of AI, and criticized the cynicism widespread among the tech elite about the ineffectiveness of philanthropy.
