More leads are being laid off in Ukraine: which IT specialists were most often laid off?

Over the past year, 17% of Ukrainian IT professionals have lost their jobs. Although the overall share of layoffs has decreased slightly compared to 2025 (then it was 19%), the picture of layoffs has changed noticeably. The focus has shifted to the upper echelons: in Ukraine, Lead+ level specialists have become more frequently laid off (15% versus 9% last year), while Middle-level specialists have been laid off less frequently (29% versus 34% in 2025).

More leads are being laid off in Ukraine: which IT specialists were most often laid off?

Over the past year, 17% of Ukrainian IT professionals have lost their jobs. Although the overall share of layoffs has decreased slightly compared to 2025 (then it was 19%), the picture of layoffs has changed noticeably. The focus has shifted to the upper echelons: in Ukraine, Lead+ level specialists have become more frequently laid off (15% versus 9% last year), while Middle-level specialists have been laid off less frequently (29% versus 34% in 2025).

This is reported by DOU, based on the results of a survey of 628 specialists in Ukraine, conducted in March-April 2026.

By titles

During the year, Senior specialists were the most frequently laid off — 43%, followed by Middle specialists — 29%. When compared to last year's data, these figures were 38.1% and 33.7%, respectively.

By specialization

The largest reductions were in Software Engineer (47%) and QA/AQA Engineer (15%). A similar trend was observed in 2025 - 44.9% and 15.2%, respectively, indicating a further increase in the number of layoffs among software engineers.

By company type

The largest number of layoffs were in food companies (52%) and service companies (30%). The trend has not changed over the year, but the reduction in service companies has slowed down slightly - last year it was 34.6%.

By company size

Companies with 50–200 employees saw the most layoffs, at 22%. Last year's analysis showed the same trend, but the percentage was significantly higher, at 30.9%.
