Smilyansky commented on the National Bank's decision: "I violated the main rule - to love and exalt to the heavens the head of the NBU, A.H. Pyshny."
Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smilyansky is ready to engage external lawyers to protect the interests of the company and himself as its leader after the NBU’s decision regarding his «incompatibility» with professional suitability.
Ukrposhta CEO Ihor Smilyansky is ready to engage external lawyers to protect the interests of the company and himself as its leader after the NBU’s decision regarding his «incompatibility» with professional suitability.
Smilyansky reported this on his social media channel, linking the NBU’s decision to the personal antipathy towards him on the part of the head of the National Bank, Andriy Pyshny, as well as to the latter’s reluctance to allow Ukrposhta to create its own bank.
«I think everyone understands that I violated the main rule of the banking sector of Ukraine in 2023–2026: you must love and exalt to the heavens the head of the NBU, A. G. Pyshny, otherwise you cannot be a banker or work in the financial sector,» the head of Ukrposhta noted.
Smilyansky also emphasized that the shareholder or supervisory board of Ukrposhta have the right to appoint and dismiss the head — with or without the decision of the NBU, so this decision is within their competence.
«Of course, the change of manager and its impact are also stipulated in our international agreements, including credit agreements worth tens of millions of euros with the EBRD. So we will also communicate the situation with them accordingly. As with the IMF,» the top manager assured.
Meanwhile, Ukrposhta, according to him, continues to operate without any changes.
«We have learned to recover quickly both after enemy strikes and after NBU strikes. By the way, they are no less insidious than the strikes of the occupiers. Given the intolerance for criticism, the NBU in places is very reminiscent of a neighboring enemy country,» Smilyansky expressed his opinion.
Among other things, Smilyansky called this decision by the NBU «complete nonsense» and «a settling of personal scores.»
He did not rule out that he would bring the executors and customers of this decision to court in Ukrainian and international courts for causing reputational damage.
