"I was a little scared." Andrew Garfield says he doesn't trust AI after playing Sam Altman in biopic Artificial

British-American actor Andrew Garfield admitted that playing OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the film Artificial made him fear and distrust the development of artificial intelligence.
The actor spoke about this in an interview with Variety. According to Garfield, immersing himself in the topic had the opposite effect for him, and the creators of modern neural networks often themselves do not realize all the consequences and possibilities of their own developments.
"I was a little scared. I had a certain distrust of this technology. It seems that the people who create AI and encourage us to use it do not fully understand its capabilities themselves. So personally, I find it a little irresponsible," Garfield said. The actor added that although he used ChatGPT as an "advanced Google", he does not plan to rely on artificial intelligence in his career.
Luca Guadagnino’s drama about OpenAI has become one of the most talked-about film projects of the season. After its world premiere on October 5, the film "Artificial" debuted with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 16 reviews). At the same time, the film’s path to the audience was not easy: initially the project was taken care of by Amazon MGM Studios, but the studio abandoned it after the agreement on Amazon’s investment in OpenAI for $ 50 billion. The film distribution rights were transferred to the company Neon.
Sam Altman himself, in comments to Politico and Vanity Fair, said that he had already seen the trailer and was amazed at how accurately Garfield reproduced his mannerisms. The head of OpenAI recalled how, during filming near his house, he accidentally met the actor on the street: “I was going to buy coffee, and there was a guy walking towards me, dressed exactly like me, with the same backpack and my gait. It was like I had fallen into a simulation glitch.”

Despite this, Altman doubts the biopic’s complete historical accuracy, although he hopes the film will be interesting for viewers.
Artificial is set in November 2023, when OpenAI’s board of directors temporarily removed Sam Altman from his position as CEO. The film also stars Monica Barbaro (as Mira Murati), Ike Barinholtz (Elon Musk), Cooper Hoffman (Greg Brockman), and Russian Yuri Borisov (Ilya Sutzkever). The film is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
