A representative of STG Defence told Military.com about this. According to him, the company studied world analogues of similar camouflage cloaks.
«There are a lot of interesting ones, I won’t name the brands now, but they all have a very large budget. If we take analogues from other countries, they will cost $2,000-3,000 and above. You understand that in the conditions of the current war there, this is very expensive for our fighters,» said a representative of STG Defence.
He said that the poncho is being created together with the Central Directorate for the Development of Material Support of the Ministry of Defense, which previously reported on its development. The product is based on metallized nylon with silver crystals, which helps retain human heat and release it in designated areas. The material also has good reflective properties.
The company says the poncho is currently undergoing the necessary testing to ensure manufacturers are confident in the product before it hits the market. It is being tested by the Defense Forces, in particular the National Guard of Ukraine, where the military is providing positive feedback, STG Defence says.
«This is a technological product. You can’t just take it and give it to them — 'here, put it on.' This is not Harry Potter’s cloak… First, you need to study it, teach the fighter how to use it, learn the optimal methods where it can be used,» the company representative noted.
According to him, the main purpose of this poncho is to blur the silhouette of a fighter against the general background. He added that STG Defence can scale up production of the product, but first the company needs to understand the scope of needs.
Recall that earlier, inventors from Rivne developed a poncho for the military that hides from thermal imaging. It weighs 1.5 kg and costs up to 7,500 UAH.
