Alex Roslin of Wild Hornets told the Financial Times that the company’s drones first successfully intercepted a strike drone less than five months ago. «We are expanding production at a dramatic pace», he said.
Roslin said that an AIM-9X interceptor missile for the NASAMS air defense system costs over $1 million, while a disposable STING interceptor drone costs only $2,100. They shoot down the much more expensive Russian Shahed, which cost, according to various estimates, $35,000 per drone.
«This is a very cost-effective solution. This is an example of Ukraine’s asymmetric approach, which is fighting against the mass suicide practiced by Russia», says the representative of the Wild Hornets.
According to Alex Roslin, the Defense Forces say they need to deploy three interceptors for every Shahed, which at the current rate means 2,500 per day. Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal previously said that «in the near future» the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to deploy 1,000 drone interceptors per day.
Ukraine is currently seeking funding from foreign partners to ensure the production of interceptor drones in the required volumes.
Recall that earlier «Wild Hornets» video tested a faster version of the STING interceptor drone, which sounds and speeds like a Formula 1 car. The new version of the drone was able to accelerate to 315 km/h.
