The Ukrainian high-speed STING S interceptor drone from the Wild Hornets company has successfully passed combat tests and destroyed several Russian Geran-5 rocket drones and about a dozen slower Geran-4 rocket models.
This was reported by Business Insider, citing representatives of the Wild Hornets company and Ukrainian officials.
According to the developers, the bullet-shaped STING S is an improved modification of their popular interceptor drone. During recent tests, tactical air defense units have already destroyed several Russian Geran-5 jet UAVs, as well as about a dozen Geran-4 jet drones with the help of this device. After the test operation is completed, Wild Hornets plans to launch the STING S into mass production.
Most of the enemy targets during the tests were shot down using the Hornet Vision Ctrl control system. It allows operators to control STING interceptors hundreds of kilometers from the launch line, while remaining in safe conditions.
The Geran-5 jet is one of the most modern strike drones in Russia. It is capable of speeds of almost 600 km/h and can carry a warhead weighing about 90 kg. The Russian army has increased the production of its jet drones, which has allowed it to change tactics.
Previously, it massively used slower piston-powered Geran-2s (analogs to the Iranian Shahed-136), but after the effective adaptation of Ukrainian mobile fire groups, the Russians had to change their focus to modifications with mini-turbojet engines with speeds of over 300 km/h.
