A BBC Ukraine source has revealed details about the Ukrainian medium-range Bars drone missile. According to an insider, it resembles the Peklo missile and could be mass-produced in Ukraine.
This weapon was first announced by the Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, Herman Smetanin, during the briefing «Ukrainian Weapons 2024.» Then he mentioned «Bars» while listing Ukrainian missiles: «Hell», «Palyanytsya», «Ruta».
According to BBC sources in the government, the Bars is a development of private manufacturers, not state ones, and belongs to the class of drone missiles. The insider added that the parameters of the Bars most closely resemble the Peklo drone missile.
The range of the Barsa is approximately 700-800 km. The source described it as a medium-range weapon. The insider claims that the main advantage of this drone missile is the possibility of mass production in Ukraine. This will give the Armed Forces of Ukraine a powerful means of hitting targets in the Russian rear.
It is currently unknown what «Bars» looks like and what technical characteristics it has.
Recall that on August 24, 2024, the Ukrainian military first struck the Russian army with a new weapon — the «Palyanytsya» drone missile. Subsequently, the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Mykhailo Fedorov, reported that eachsuch missile costs less than $1 million, and the military is turning to the private sector to further reduce production costs.
Last December, President Volodymyr Zelensky handed over to the military the first batch of the latest Peklo drone missiles, which are capable of flying at speeds of up to 700 km/h. The exact price of one such serial missile is unknown, but it is less than the cost of the Ukrainian Lutyi kamikaze drone, which costs approximately $200,000.
