OpenAI has a new breed of engineers — “super juniors.” How are they changing the job market?
OpenAI has begun actively hiring not only seniors, but also so-called «super juniors» — young AI-native engineers who use AI tools so effectively that they surprise even experienced colleagues.
OpenAI has begun actively hiring not only seniors, but also so-called «super juniors» — young AI-native engineers who use AI tools so effectively that they surprise even experienced colleagues.
This was stated by engineer and analyst Gergely Oros in his report after a visit to OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco.
«OpenAI is now hiring more than just seniors. The company is finding success in the combination of ‘super senior + super junior.’ These are early-career developers who think entrepreneurially, have grown up with AI tools, and know how to use them in unexpected ways,» Oros quotes ChatGPT’s head of engineering Sulman Chowdhury.
«Of course I used a lot of Codex»
In one example given by OpenAI, a young engineer built a complex system, and when his boss asked if he had used Codex, he replied almost insultedly: «It’s insulting to even ask. Of course, I used Codex — but not alone. I created several instances that talked to each other, checked each other, and distributed tasks. One validated the result, the others implemented specialized parts.»
This approach — not «delegate all AI,» but using multiple agents in a bundle — became an example of how «super-juns» think differently: they are not afraid to automate, experiment, and scale their own ideas.
Who are the «Super Juns»
Super-juns have a number of characteristics.
First, they are AI-native — born in the AI era, accustomed to Codex, ChatGPT, Copilot, Replit, etc.
Secondly, they have entrepreneurial skills — often with experience in startups or incubators (Y Combinator).
Thirdly, they think systematically — they don’t just code, but combine multiple agents, APIs, and models.
Well, the key thing is that they are not afraid of AI — they perceive it as a work partner, not a tool.
OpenAI believes that it is the mix of experienced architects and such «new generation juntas» that creates the most effective teams.
#Vsrativakansii. Canceling buzzers, booking for casinos, a trap for Juno designers, a encrypted job for $7000, a vibecoder that will replace 10 developers… And a few more shitty candidates
