Superhuman started paying employees for working in the office: attendance increased by 57%
Superhuman (formerly known as Grammarly ) offers extra bonuses to employees who show up to the office more often, instead of punishing those who want to work from home.
Superhuman (formerly known as Grammarly ) offers extra bonuses to employees who show up to the office more often, instead of punishing those who want to work from home.
In January, Superhuman introduced a system of incentives for employees who visit the office. The company came to this decision after a failed attempt to require its engineers to come to the office twice a week, writes Business Insider.
The company employs more than 1,500 people worldwide. According to Chief Human Resources Officer Kenny Mendes, office attendance has increased by 57% since the launch of the Ways of Working Program. It is a two-tier, choice-based model that allows the team to choose their own schedule for working in the office, from two to five days a week.
The more time you spend in the office, the more benefits you receive, including transportation benefits and wellness funds that can be spent on daycare, gym memberships, grocery delivery, or cleaning.
Employees in the US who choose to work in the office two days a week receive $500 per quarter as part of a "wellness package," and those who work in the office five days a week receive up to $2,000 quarterly.
“If you look at it as a percentage of salary relative to the impact it has on the employee — higher productivity, greater engagement, faster problem resolution — then from a company’s perspective, these costs are an obvious solution,” Mendez said.
The company initially focused its return to the office on engineering, product, and design teams. But interest has spread across all departments, and now 75 percent of employees who live near office centers (hubs) have chosen some kind of visitation plan. A third of them have chosen to come in four or five days a week. According to Mendes, the company has eight such hubs in North America and Europe, including Kyiv.
Superhuman disabled Grammarly's controversial Expert Review feature, which offered edits from well-known experts. That didn't save the company from a lawsuit.
