“There was hope, confidence in my strength and experience. But the rose-colored glasses wore off.” An experienced IT professional created an app that helps keep your mind in order while looking for a job in an overheated market. How So U LLY works
Igor Taratayko, a developer with many years of experience, created an application that helps him keep his mind sharp while he has been looking for a job for a long time.
Igor Taratayko, a developer with many years of experience, created an application that helps him keep his mind sharp while he has been looking for a job for a long time.
«How not to go crazy when you’re looking for a job and not get lost in 1.5 years. There was hope, confidence in your abilities and experience. But the rose-colored glasses wore off, the negative diopters exposed the distorted reality of the modern labor market and the pursuit of a match/offer. Are the skis not going, or am I the one? I started picking at my own shortcomings, looking for gaps in my knowledge of the «newfangled» SOLIDs and KISSs. I was also told that after 15 years of developing for iOS/macOS, I couldn’t even apply for the position of a jun, because «everyone is so reactive and combine harvester-like these days,» and Objective C applications are now «dead.» «When you tell a young interviewer at a technical interview that you and your team implemented reactivity in the application back in 2009 (there were 10 years left before the release of the Combine framework) and it worked until 2023, they look at you like Grandpa Panas,» Igor told his story.
For 15 years, he successfully motivated a team of 15 developers, led technically, led, planned work and managed processes. «It was a company of engineers who were ready to do programming work of any complexity. We programmed for Pebble watches (the ones that existed before the Apple Watch was released). I selected developers, taught them everything I know. In a fashionable way, this is „mentoring“. I also gave the candidates a test task, it was enough to understand the potential of the person in front of me and „whether it is worth moving on“. We moved. When I told the interviewers at the interview how many developers we „had rowed“, their eyes became round. Then I realized: they shouldn’t hire me, because „what then to do with those 40 developers…“», recalls Igor.
He adds that he knows the processes inside out, knows how to organize work as efficiently as possible. «And this is only a small part of what I know. And if I don’t know how to do something, I will learn and be able to do it,» says the developer.
To prevent the roof from falling off from the «unique» working methods of HR managers, Igor decided to implement his wife’s idea and create an application of author’s meditations.
«Idea + free time = work… We did it in three months of hard work,» he said.
The application is implemented in Swift/SwiftUI. The application uses SOLID principles, because, according to Igor, modern development is impossible without them.
«The application is reactive, all asynchronous, because users don’t wait. It was not possible without communication with Apple reviewers: radical architectural changes were made in less than a week,» he says.
So U LLY is a personal assistant in the world of meditation and mindfulness. This is an author’s application, created specifically to help you find harmony, reduce stress levels and restore inner balance. The application offers you over 80 unique meditations, carefully designed and recorded by the author, so that you can immerse yourself in a state of deep peace and awareness every day.
The application offers meditations that best meet the user’s current needs, helping to better understand themselves and find inner harmony. Thanks to the simple, intuitive and aesthetic interface, the user will easily find the right practice and start meditating within a few minutes after launching the application.
All meditations are available directly on your device (iOS), so you can practice anywhere, anytime — at home, at work, while traveling, or even on the go. In addition, the application includes an audio version of the author’s meditation book, which will help you understand the essence of the practice more deeply and get additional inspiration for developing mindfulness.
