No more deciphering doctors' illegible handwriting. Ukrainian developers have created an AI-MedTech startup that records medical information right at the appointment. How the Tayra.ai service works
A team of Ukrainian startups is developing a medical startup based on artificial intelligence that helps doctors save time and record information and appointments during patient appointments.
Yulia Tychynska, Bohdan Khaetsky, Dmytro Sofina, and Yuriy Gumenchuk, together with a team of data and ML engineers, created the Tayra.ai service, which significantly saves doctors and patients time, and also eliminates the hassle of deciphering illegible handwriting of doctors.
How it all began
Yulia and Bogdan, who are now co-founders of the service, previously developed a startup called Consultacia, a neural network that was supposed to interpret the results of a person’s blood tests, taking into account symptoms, like a doctor. And the main thing in this solution for doctors was that AI would write the text for them. But doctors noticed that one description of the tests was not enough for them, they would have to write the entire text within the visit.
«At that time, we communicated a lot with doctors — I was developing innovations for clinics, and Bohdan Khayetsky has his own network of clinics. And when we realized that our previous startup had failed (ready-made hacked networks of this kind appeared on the Internet), Bohdan noticed that it would be good if AI wrote everything for the doctor. We piloted the idea with other clinic owners, doctors, partners Dmytro Sofina and Yuriy Gumenchuk (experts in developing AI solutions) joined us, and we started working,» Yulia, who is now the project’s CEO, told dev.ua.
The target audience of the service is doctors and clinic owners. Similar solutions are already operating in English-speaking markets, but there is no direct competition in Ukraine and neighboring countries yet. Currently, the service is integrated into two clinic networks, and 50 doctors use it.
How Tayra.ai works
The service is integrated into medical information systems (MIS) via API, then during the visit (or when the doctor independently dictates the protocol), the doctor opens the patient’s card, presses the Tayra button, and the audio of the appointment begins to be recorded.
Next, the AI system automatically transcribes, structures, extracts only relevant medical information, distributes it into the necessary fields, writes it in the appropriate fields, the doctor checks it, forms a conclusion. The AI also suggests questions to establish a more accurate diagnosis.
The developers note that thanks to their tool, the administrative burden on doctors is reduced, the accuracy of medical records is increased, it becomes possible to see more patients in the same time, and the quality of patient service is improved. The efficiency of working with tayra.ai increases by 20%.
Money issue
Yulia said that the project is currently being actively refined and improved. However, the co-founders have already invested $250,000 of their own funds in the project.
However, the startup already has a working monetization model: clinic owners purchase the AI medical scribe tayra.ai, paying for minutes of use — similar to how you top up a mobile phone.
Plans
According to Victoria, the project has ambitious plans and a great future. «In Ukraine, we are already integrated into MIS, which cover 70% of the market, and we are systematically entering the market. The solution for Poland is already ready — we are starting negotiations on integration. And then — Romania, Turkey, Lithuania, Estonia.
