The complex is located in two regions of Ukraine and was built by DTEK in partnership with the American company Fluence Energy. Investments in the project amounted to 125 million euros.
The construction of the six installations took six months, from March to August, and they are located in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions and have a capacity of 20 to 50 MW. In total, the system will be able to store 400 MWh of electricity. This is enough to provide electricity to 600,000 homes for two hours.
"Every time the enemy tries to destroy our infrastructure, it only accelerates our movement into the future. The launch of this complex is a practical step to strengthen Ukraine's energy sustainability. The new capacities increase the reliability and flexibility of the system, reduce the risks of emergency outages, and allow us to effectively prepare for the winter period. This also opens up new opportunities for the development of renewable energy and decentralization of the energy system," said Energy Minister Svitlana Grinchuk during the opening of the complex.
The project was the first large-scale energy launch after the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement between Ukraine and the United States. According to the contract with NPC Ukrenergo, the system is to provide frequency maintenance and power reserve services, which is critically important during emergency situations in the power system. Investments in the project amounted to 125 million euros.
Fluence Energy implemented the project completely remotely, which is the first such case in the company's history. For local maintenance, 20 Ukrainian energy specialists were trained at similar facilities in Finland and Germany. In the future, Fluence Energy will support the operation of the facilities online: with diagnostics, monitoring, and technical support in real time.
