German indie publisher Crunchy Leaf Games and Kyiv-based studio Twigames have announced a partnership. The Berlin-based company will publish Hollow Home, a narrative game about a teenager's survival in the first weeks of a full-scale Russian invasion. The project is scheduled for release on Steam in 2026.
dev.ua learned about the agreement from the founder of Twigames studio Valery Minenko.
In Hollow Home, players follow the story of 14-year-old Maxim, who struggles to survive in a city caught in the early weeks of a full-scale Russian invasion. The game deliberately eschews combat, focusing instead on the civilian experience and psychological effects of war. The protagonist must explore the streets, scavenge for supplies, help neighbors, and make difficult moral decisions.
"Hollow Home is not just a game for us. It is a personal project with a distinct visual style and a story about civilians trying to survive," said Minenko.
Crunchy Leaf Games CEO Max Domet emphasized the desire to help developers find their international audience. “When we saw what Twigames was creating, we realized: these are the projects we want to support,” he explained the decision to collaborate.
Even before its release, Hollow Home managed to win several industry awards, including honors at Games Gathering 2024, Nordic Game Pitch Battle 2024, as well as the titles of Most Promising Game and Critics' Choice at Indie Cup Ukraine 2023.
As a reminder, Ukrainian indie studio Twigames has been working on the project for several years. The game is inspired by real stories of Ukrainians who found themselves under siege at the beginning of a full-scale conflict. Valeriy Minenko told more about the mechanics, concept, and Hollow Home in an interview for dev.ua.
