"This is the best minister we have ever had in our country." Commander K-2 Kyrylo Veres on the resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov from the Ministry of Defense

The resignation of Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense of Ukraine has temporarily put some projects related to K2 on hold. At the same time, the previous head of the defense department was remembered by the military for his exceptional involvement and willingness to promptly resolve problems on the ground without unnecessary bureaucracy.
The commander of the K-2 battalion of the 54th Motorized Rifle Brigade, Hero of Ukraine Kyrylo Veres, shared his impressions of cooperation with the former minister in an interview with Roman Kravets for Ukrainska Pravda.
Evaluating Fedorov's work in office, the military man did not hold back his emotions and called him the most effective head of the ministry of all time.
"I believe that he is the best minister who ever was. I am not saying anything about the new Minister of Defense yet, he has just arrived. But as for everyone who was before him, my personal opinion is that Fedorov was the most effective Minister of Defense we have had in our country," Veres noted.
According to the commander, Mykhailo Fedorov played a key role in the creation and scaling of the Drone Line project. The minister always supported the military and did not interfere in tactical issues on the battlefield, instead focusing on support and direct communication.
"The minister never called me and said, 'Kyrylo, are you going to kill more this month or not?' Well, I say, Mr. Minister, we will definitely do that now," Veres said.
Veres emphasized that the level of direct communication with Fedorov was unprecedented. The commander could directly address the head of the department with his, in his words, "possibly idiotic requests" if they were critically important for the unit "at the moment."
"I could have called the minister and asked for 30 Starlinks. This is just one of many examples that I could have raised with him. And it was resolved. It wasn't just a conversation, it was a second," the military man said.
The battalion commander admitted that due to Fedorov's dismissal, some of the K-2 projects have "gone downhill" or been put on hold, as the unit is currently in an uncertain status and has not yet established communication with the new leadership of the Ministry of Defense. However, Veres expressed hope that Fedorov managed to convey his vision for the development of unmanned systems to his successor.
Recall that on July 15, 2026, Mykhailo Fedorov officially resigned as Minister of Defense amid a large-scale government reshuffle and the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. The dismissal was preceded by reports of internal conflicts between the Ministry of Defense and the leadership of the General Staff. President Volodymyr Zelensky explained the personnel changes by the need to improve communication between departments and prepare for a difficult winter. After Fedorov's resignation, peaceful protests by military and civilian personnel began in a number of cities in Ukraine demanding his reinstatement.
