As Forbes Ukraine writes, the company informed the publication about this in response to a request. Recall that with the beginning of a full-scale war, advertising did not work to prevent disinformation.
The appearance of Ukraine in the list of countries for targeted advertising on TikTok was noticed by digital marketer Denis Herman, who published this on his Telegram channel on April 24. The tool works fully through the advertising account — where you can precisely adjust advertising parameters, the post says.
There is no separate TikTok office in Ukraine. Since 2022, content moderation and the platform’s communication with government agencies have been carried out through the Polish office. Before that, content moderation was carried out by the office in the Russian Federation.
In April 2024, the Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC) began negotiations with TikTok on opening a representative office of the social network in Ukraine, CDC head Andriy Kovalenko reported in a comment to Forbes. However, a week later, the negotiations were paused. «We had no plans to open it,» Jakub Olek, TikTok’s director of relations with state authorities in Central and Northern Europe, told Forbes in September 2024.
After the return of advertising tools for Ukraine, TikTok will adhere to a «strict advertising policy,» the company’s press service said in a response, without specifying details. The social network has a number of restrictions on what cannot be advertised on the platform. These include tobacco products, weapons, military equipment, gambling, copies of products of famous brands, animals, etc.
