Toilet paper, cake and... cucumber: Aitov residents told comical stories about "office scumbags" in IT companies
The IT community, known for its high salaries and progressive views, has suddenly become a platform for discussing a very mundane but intriguing problem: the disappearance of everyday items from offices. From toilet paper to whole cakes, Threads users have shared curious stories of missing office supplies.
The IT community, known for its high salaries and progressive views, has suddenly become a platform for discussing a very mundane but intriguing problem: the disappearance of everyday items from offices. From toilet paper to whole cakes, Threads users have shared curious stories of missing office supplies.
It all started with the dilemma of one of the Threads users, Ilya Shlyakhovy, who was surprised why someone in an IT company with high salaries was constantly taking out toilet paper. “I’m standing there, thinking: ‘Seriously? You earn a few thousand dollars and you’re taking out toilet paper?’ This is not about poverty. This is something deeper,” Ilya reflects, wondering about the motivation for such actions. Commentators immediately picked up the wave, sharing their own experiences of office supplies disappearing.
"Once someone stole a whole cake from the refrigerator at the company. The person bought one for a celebration, and planned to take the second one home. Everyone thought of the security guards, and the head accountant was on camera. She had one of the highest salaries in the company," user Marusya told the story of the "sweet thief."
Threads user Kateryna added that among the gastronomic preferences of "non-sleepers" there are people who are fond of fresh vegetables. "I worked at Uber, and my colleague would occasionally bring out a cucumber in his sweater sleeve, or something else from the kitchen. Everyone knew, and he was sincerely sure that no one noticed."
"I once worked in similar conditions. We had a machine with free 0.25 bottles of Coke. A pro with a salary of 5k would always come in before everyone else, and f*cked half of those bottles home 😁" — gives an example from a former job by a contributor with the nickname madredeyed.
The next “laying woman” probably decided that cola was too harmful and took home a large amount of tea. “I worked in the same office too. The salaries there weren’t super high, like for IT. But one girl constantly raked up all the tea in the kitchen and took it home. Who has her at home to drink so much tea. Maybe a gypsy camp,” Anna Kolishchuk wrote about a colleague who loves tea ceremonies.
"He worked at an IT company in Kharkiv and stole toilet paper and freshener," user Polina shared her ex-boyfriend's "criminal" experience.
A similar experience was shared by user Serhiy Golnyk, whose office air freshener disappeared, perhaps it was Polina's ex-boyfriend, or his accomplice with whom they organized an entire organized criminal group. "In our office, they stole an air freshener in the toilet)) IT guys caught a guy who came to repair our printers))) Damn Soviet-born people, just to steal something," Serhiy concluded.
Attempts to explain this phenomenon range from kleptomania or “lutomania” (by analogy with video games) to “soul composition” and “genetically programmed” “nonsense” in our latitudes. Some regretfully state: “Our people cannot help but steal…”.
Max Meoz voluntarily admitted that, in addition to toilet paper, he had stolen batteries and old equipment at work. "I dragged batteries and a couple of toilet rolls into a wheelbarrow. I repent. I also took an old iPad. I returned the Mac and other devices," Max sincerely admitted his crime.
Some companies have tried to combat this phenomenon, for example, user Andriy recalls that after the scandal with the disappearance of Luxoft milk, they introduced a rule - one package of milk for each day.
Olena Nabok said that her company started installing cameras in the kitchen to monitor the state of affairs in the kitchen. “The disappearance of food stopped after installing the camera in the kitchen. It was only connected to the power supply, there was no recording. In the basic settings of the camera, the alarm function was turned on, which rang twice a day. So everyone found out about the camera very quickly🤣🤣🤣. We found out about the alarm only after 2 weeks, because all the departments started complaining 🥴,” Olena said, but sadly added that it would not be possible to control the disappearance of toilet paper in this way.
"Close the door so no one comes in. Meet for lunch and in the evening." Aitov residents talked about the features of joint remote work with their partners
"Freeloader detected." The employer suggested that the designer create a page of an unfinished project to assess her skills. The people of Aitovo call this approach "business on test"
